KunstHaus Wien

"Art must again be a bridge between the creativity of nature and the creativity of man."
~ Friedensreich Hundertwasser

Friedensreich Hundertwasser is one of Vienna's most notable, and most quirky, native sons. Equal parts artist and ecologist, he strove to find expression that celebrated, enhanced, and benefited from the natural beauty of the world around him. The KunstHaus Wien, Hundertwasser's personal museum and the only permanent exhibition of his works, is a charming antithesis to the imperial majesty of the rest of the city.

It's fun, if a little jarring, to walk up to this façade on a quiet residential street. Hundertwasser was vehemently opposed to straight lines and uniformity. No two windows are the same, and he claimed that "An uneven floor is a melody to the feet". (And honestly, after days of walking on flat paved sidewalks, I could see his point.)
